Heat is the quiet killer of laptops. Dust packs the fan and heatsink fins, thermal paste dries out and stops conducting, and the processor throttles or shuts down to protect itself. The result is a slow laptop, a screaming fan, or a machine that dies mid-task.

Left alone, sustained heat shortens the life of the battery, drive and board. A cooling service (cleaning the airflow path, replacing the paste and checking the fan) is one of the cheapest repairs that really does extend a laptop's life.

What we handle

What Overheating Looks Like

Random shutdowns

The laptop cuts out during video calls, games or updates because it hit its thermal limit.

Fan constantly at full speed

Loud, high-pitched fan noise even on simple tasks, usually a clogged heatsink.

Slow and stuttering under load

Thermal throttling: the CPU slows itself down to stay cool, so everything feels sluggish.

Hot to the touch

Uncomfortable keyboard or base temperatures, especially near the vents.

Grinding or rattling fan

A failing fan bearing. Replace it before it stops and the laptop overheats outright.

Vents blowing little or no air

A sign of a fully blocked heatsink. Often the difference between a service and a failure.

Dusty desktop or gaming PC

Clogged filters, fans and radiators make a tower loud and hot. A proper clean-out, fresh CPU thermal paste and a tidy fan setup bring temperatures back down.

Common questions

Laptop Overheating FAQs

Why does my laptop keep shutting down?

Overheating is the most common cause. Dust in the fan and heatsink plus dried thermal paste push the processor past its temperature limit, so the laptop shuts down to protect itself. A failing battery or charger can also cause sudden shutdowns, which we check too.

How much does computer cleaning cost?

It depends on how complex the laptop or PC is to open and how much work the cooling needs, so we quote after a free inspection, with a firm price before any work. It's usually a small fraction of the cost of a replacement.

How often should thermal paste be replaced?

There's no fixed schedule. On most laptops, every few years, or sooner if temperatures climb, the fan runs constantly or it starts throttling. On desktops it often lasts longer. Replacing it when the cooling is cleaned is the sensible time.

Can I clean my laptop fan myself?

Compressed air through the vents can help a little, but dust is usually packed deep in the heatsink and thermal paste can't be replaced without opening the laptop. If it's still hot afterwards, it needs a proper service.

Is a very hot laptop dangerous?

Sustained heat shortens component life and can degrade the battery. If the base is too hot to touch, or the battery is swelling, stop using it and message us.

Will a cooling service make my laptop faster?

If it was throttling, yes, and often noticeably. If it's slow for other reasons (full drive, malware, old hardware) we'll find that too.

Stop It Cooking Itself

Message us the model and what it's doing. We'll tell you what a cooling service involves and what it costs.
