Why does my HP laptop keep shutting off from overheating?

My HP laptop won't turn on. What should I try?
Unplug everything, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then try the charger alone. If the lights still do nothing, message us. It's usually the battery, adapter or charging port rather than a dead board.
