Cloud backup setup $35 · Free consultation · Restores tested, not assumed

Most people find out their backup doesn't work at the exact moment they need it. A folder that syncs to the cloud is not a backup if deleting a file deletes it everywhere, and an external drive that hasn't been plugged in for a year protects nothing.

We set up backups that run on their own and keep older versions of your files, then actually restore a test file so you know it works. For homes that means photos, documents and email; for small businesses it also means shared folders, accounting data and a recovery plan if a computer is lost or hit by ransomware.

What we handle

Backup Setups We Do

Cloud backup (OneDrive, iCloud, Google Drive)

Desktop, Documents and Photos backed up automatically, with the right plan size chosen so you aren't overpaying.

External drive backup

Automatic Windows File History, Mac Time Machine or scheduled backups to a drive that stays safe from the computer it protects.

Layered backups (the 3-2-1 approach)

One copy on the computer, one on a local drive and one off-site, so a single failure or theft can't take everything.

Small business backup

Shared folders, accounting files and client data backed up on a schedule, with version history to undo mistakes and ransomware.

Photo and phone backup

Family photo libraries consolidated and backed up so they don't live on a single aging device.

Restore testing and checkups

We restore real files to prove it works, and can recheck your setup so silent failures get caught.

Phone photos

Get Your Phone Photos Onto Your Computer, and Backed Up

For a lot of families, the only copy of years of photos is on one phone. We move iPhone and Android photos and videos onto your Windows PC or Mac, sort them into folders by year, and set up a backup so losing or breaking the phone doesn't mean losing them.

On a Windows PC, iPhone photos come across through the Photos app over a USB cable, once the phone is unlocked and you tap "Trust This Computer", or through iCloud for Windows. iPhone photos are often saved in Apple's HEIC format, which we set up to open normally on Windows. Android phones connect as a drive over USB, or sync through Google Photos.

This is help on the computer side. The phone needs to turn on and unlock: we don't repair phones or recover data from broken ones.

Common questions

Data Backup & Cloud Backup FAQs

How much does backup setup cost in Ottawa?

Cloud backup setup for OneDrive, iCloud or Google Drive is $35. Multi-device or business setups are quoted after we see what you need. Storage plans and drives are paid to the provider at cost.

Why is my iCloud or Google storage full?

Usually photos and videos, phone backups, and files in Drive or Gmail attachments, and deleted photos still count until the "Recently Deleted" folder is emptied. We find what's using the space, back up anything you want to keep, and either clean it up or set up a better plan.

How do I get photos from my iPhone onto my PC?

Plug the iPhone into the PC with a cable, unlock it, tap "Trust This Computer", then open the Photos app on Windows and choose Import. If you use iCloud Photos, iCloud for Windows can download them instead. If it isn't working, or there are thousands of photos to sort, we can do it for you and set up a backup at the same time.

Is syncing to OneDrive or Google Drive the same as a backup?

Not always. Sync mirrors changes, including deletions. A proper backup keeps older versions so you can recover a file you deleted or that was encrypted by ransomware. We configure it so you get that protection.

What should I back up?

Anything you can't replace: photos, documents, financial records, email and business data. Programs and Windows itself can be reinstalled, so they matter less.

Can you back up a small business?

Yes. We set up scheduled, versioned backups of shared folders and key systems, and make sure someone can restore them. See our small business IT support for wider help.

My computer already failed. Can you get the files back?

Backup is for the next time. For a failure that has already happened, see our data recovery service. The assessment is free.
