Windows Reinstall & Factory Reset, Without Losing Your Files
A slow, broken or infected Windows install is often fixed by starting fresh. We back up your files first, reinstall Windows 11 or 10, and set it up again with drivers and updates done.
Windows reinstall $40 · Files backed up first · No fix, no fee
Windows gets into states that a tune-up can't fix: constant errors, updates that fail every time, leftovers from malware, or a laptop that's simply been through too much. A clean reinstall clears all of it, and Windows itself costs nothing extra: a computer that came with Windows reactivates automatically.
The risk is losing files, apps and settings along the way. We copy your files off first, choose the reinstall that keeps as much as possible, then put back drivers, updates and the programs you use, so you get the computer back ready to work.
When a Reinstall or Reset Makes Sense
Windows is slow or full of errors
Crashes, freezes and error messages that keep coming back after cleanups. A fresh install usually ends them.
Updates keep failing
Windows Update that fails, rolls back or loops. Reinstalling the current version over the top often fixes it with files and apps kept.
After malware or a scam
When someone has had remote access or an infection ran deep, a clean install is the only way to be sure. We save your files first.
Selling or giving it away
A full reset that removes your accounts and files properly, so the next owner starts clean and your data goes nowhere.
Forgot the password
A reset from the sign-in screen works without the password, but it wipes the files. Try a password reset first if the files matter.
Fresh start on a new drive
Combined with an SSD upgrade, a fresh Windows install on a fast new drive makes an older computer feel new.
Reset This PC, Reinstall, or Clean Install?
Windows 11 has a "Fix problems using Windows Update" option (Settings, System, Recovery) that reinstalls the current version of Windows and keeps your files, apps and settings. It's the gentlest fix and worth trying first.
"Reset this PC" with "Keep my files" keeps your documents and photos, but removes your installed programs, so they all need reinstalling afterwards. "Remove everything" wipes the computer back to new.
A clean install from a USB drive is the most thorough option. It also removes the trial software the computer came with, and it's the right choice after a serious infection or on a new SSD.
Back Up First, Even With "Keep My Files"
"Keep my files" keeps the files in your user folders, but not your programs, browser data stored only on the computer, or files saved in unusual places. If anything goes wrong partway, a reset can also leave Windows unable to start.
So copy everything that matters somewhere else first: an external drive, or OneDrive with your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders backed up. If the computer uses BitLocker or device encryption, make sure you have the recovery key too, because a reset can ask for it.

Windows Reinstall & Factory Reset FAQs
Can I reinstall Windows 11 without losing my data?
Yes. "Fix problems using Windows Update" in Settings, System, Recovery reinstalls Windows and keeps your files, apps and settings. "Reset this PC" with "Keep my files" keeps your files but removes your apps. Back up first either way.
How do I factory reset a laptop without the password?
On the sign-in screen, hold Shift while you choose Restart from the power button, then go to Troubleshoot and Reset this PC. Without the password you'll have to choose "Remove everything", which erases the files. If the files matter, try a password reset first.
Do I need to buy Windows again after a reinstall?
Usually not. A computer that came with Windows 10 or 11 has a digital licence and activates automatically after reinstalling. We'll check yours before starting.
Will I need to reinstall Microsoft Office and my other programs?
After a "Keep my files" reset or a clean install, yes. We reinstall Office from your Microsoft account or licence and put back the programs you use, if you have their installers or logins.
How long does a Windows reinstall take?
A few hours including backup, drivers and updates. It's often same day, and longer if there's a lot of data to copy or a lot of programs to reinstall.
Is it worth reinstalling Windows instead of buying a new laptop?
Often, yes, especially combined with an SSD. If the laptop is too old for Windows 11 or the hardware is failing, we'll tell you honestly that replacing it is the better use of your money.
