New Computer Setup & Data Transfer in Ottawa
We set up the new computer and move everything from the old one: files, photos, email, browser passwords, printers and the programs you use. You pick up where you left off.
At your home, at our workshop by appointment, or remotely · Quote before we start
A new computer should feel like an upgrade, not a weekend of hunting for files and passwords. The hard part isn't the documents folder, it's everything around it: email accounts, saved browser passwords and bookmarks, photo libraries, printers, and the handful of programs you rely on.
We do the whole move, check that everything opens and works on the new machine, and then wipe the old one securely so it's safe to sell, donate or recycle.
What We Set Up and Move
Files and photos
Documents, desktop, downloads and the full photo library, with folders kept the way you had them.
Email, contacts and calendars
Outlook, Gmail or Apple Mail accounts set up again, with older local mail moved across where needed.
Browser passwords and bookmarks
Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari passwords, bookmarks and settings carried over.
Printers and devices
Printers, scanners, external drives and webcams connected and tested on the new computer.
Programs you use
Office, accounting, tax and other programs reinstalled with your existing licences.
Windows to Mac, or Mac to Windows
Switching platforms, with files mapped to their new homes and the equivalent apps set up.
What Happens to the Old Computer?
Once you've confirmed everything is on the new machine, we sign the old one out of your accounts and securely wipe its drive, so nothing personal goes with it whether you sell it, donate it, pass it to family or recycle it.
If it's still in decent shape, it may be worth keeping as a spare or for a family member. An SSD and fresh install can give it years more life.

New Computer Setup FAQs
What do you transfer to the new computer?
Files and photos, email accounts, contacts and calendars, browser passwords and bookmarks, printers, and the programs you use, reinstalled with your existing licences. We check everything opens before we finish.
Can you move everything from a Windows PC to a Mac?
Yes. Files, photos, email and passwords move across, and we set up the Mac equivalents of the programs you used, or Windows versions where they exist.
Can you set it up at my home?
Yes, anywhere in Ottawa including Orléans, Kanata, Barrhaven and Nepean, by appointment. Or drop both computers at our workshop by appointment.
What should I do with my old computer?
Once everything's moved, we securely wipe it so it's safe to sell, donate, give to family or recycle, and tell you where it can go in Ottawa.
How much does new computer setup cost?
It depends on how much data, how many accounts and how many programs are involved, so we quote it upfront after a quick chat about your setup.
Can you move the photos from my phone onto the new computer too?
Yes. We bring iPhone and Android photos and videos onto the computer, organise them into folders, and set up a backup so they aren't only on the phone. The phone needs to turn on and unlock; we don't repair phones or recover data from broken ones.
